Ash went upstairs to catch his pet and left Elie alone. While waiting for him she begins to have her doubts about telling her friend the truth as she looks through the blinds at the distant skyscrapers. There is no way out of the illusion. Telling Ash the truth would be a cruel thing to do without offering him a solution, a hope, anything. Elie had nearly awakened her friend from his dream, but now he had slipped back to his usual state and seems to have forgotten what he wanted to do. Maybe it's better this way.
